The society is known as Malaysia Nanotechnology Association (Persatuan Nanoteknologi Malaysia) and registered as an non-profit association on September 2009. MNA was officially launched by Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) during Nanotech Malaysia 2009.
